NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION FACILITATOR TRAINING
Annette Romano, Instructor
On October 10th, 11th, and 12th, new staff members met with Al Summers, Buck Institute for Education consultant, to create project-based learning experiences for their students.
Fifteen projects were designed during the workshop, including a middle school project in which students will research factors that contributed to the demise of an ancient civilization, compare and contrast the root causes with issues facing the world today, and take action by writing a compelling position statement to a government official about changes that are needed in order to ensure that our current civilization endures. A high school geometry project will require students to use their knowledge of mathematical constructs to build accurate 3-D architectural models for a new learning space in the building. In a world language classroom, students will author storybooks for use in beginning language courses, and in science classes, students will learn about ionic compounds that were present in the runoff water from the recent flood and will develop a new Village plan that is related to their findings.
The new PBL units are both tailored to the needs of Bronxville students and reflective of our new colleagues’ unique talents and interests. These enrichments to the curriculum will provide invaluable opportunities for students to explore and acquire the dispositions of the Bronxville Promise. We are grateful to the Bronxville School Foundation for making this workshop possible.
