2018 CURRICULUM RENEWAL and MOOC INSTITUTE

1/6

Twenty-six teachers participated in the 2018 Curriculum Renewal and MOOC (massive open online course) Institute.  The following tables reflect the range of K-12 participation, curricular areas, and MOOC sponsors.

Participants in the Institute worked independently during the summer to create new instructional units and complete their MOOCs.  On August 27th, all three groups met to share the outcomes of their work, engage in a peer review of their unit designs, and provide feedback on the quality of the Institute.  The overwhelming sentiment was that the Institute provided opportunities to expand skills, identify instructional resources, and engage in discipline-specific professional development.  Drawbacks to the Institute included the lack of discipline-specific feedback during the independent study phase, and the wide range of course complexity and expectations.  These reflections will be used to refine the opportunities available to teachers during the 2018-19 school year.
